For anyone who may not be familiar,
The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine is the original documentation on Google, by the founders of Google, abundant with information unavailable in Google guidelines. I think the central concepts are all still valid. The original Google was at
google.stanford.edu.
Edit: IMO, almost anyone is 10,000x better off on Google the legit way. Maybe 1/100,000 sites rank high on viagra related queries but practical queries that make top 10 will manually be removed by Google fast. phpBB signatures with key phrases in anchor text appeared to really damage the rank of someone I know. It seems obvious that's what caused the decline but I can't technically prove it.
