i tend to agree with id on this one. altough i'd prefer to see my infrastructure services ran inhouse, i prefer knowing them hosted with someone i can trust (or make liable like hell) if i can not reasonable have the skills to admin them, or the infrastructure to host the boxen. (seriously, a 42U in a small office floorspace ?)
managing things fully in house are difficult, it ask a lot of varying skills in your personnel (admin of course, but electrician, cooling specialist, physical security, etc, etc...) and the cost of running would be prohibitive for systems that are probably not even business related.
as for Rosie-L's question, i'd say find a good security team, take a pair of dedicated servers at a decent ISP, get a SLA on it, and you'll be rolling
