annual software surcharge
Posted by: kingcoin
Date: January 19, 2008 04:39PM

A dozen years ago I bought a software program
for $1500 for my jewelry store.Initially there was no annual
fee unless you called them foe technical help.
then they started charging a nominal annual fee.
every year they give me a code to enter to continue
using their program. The annual fee is now over $650
and I feel I'm being ripped off.Short of buying someone elses
program is there anyrthing I can do?

anyone with a solution email me kingcoin@verizon.net
I'll be GRATEFUL....via paypal

warez? =oP

Btw what is the program? I am sure there is an opensource or free alternative for you. There are many that do inventory management, accounting, scheduling, etc. Seeing the app is a dozen years old and they are charging you that much per year for something so outdated then I say find an alternative, you may find something even better.

As Cryptic said, you can probably find something as good or better open source, or commercial that is as good or better and won't cost you as much (or possibly anything but time).

I am not sure if this will fit your needs but I read some good reviews.

As many said before, your best bet is to go open source, because then you know this won't happen again. If you don't mind warez, you can try that too (although I don't think you'll be lucky: business solutions tend to be overlooked by the warez scene)...

Anyway, for that kind of money you can probably even hire a programmer to code whatever it is you need, providing it's not too esoteric. You may have to invest ~1K, but then you'll own your own program, and you'll be able to get EXACTLY the features you need, so it's probably worth it. There's quite a few services out there that do on-demand coding, but the best choice would be to find one in your area and then show them personally what you're using (so that they can copy it :P ), what you need it for, etc...
