I've been thinking about this problem more seriously recently. I was wondering what would need to be to create a safe, reliable operating environment for web apps to use OS apis. I've been reading this blog for a year or so but I haven't fully grasped all the technical issues yet.

It is talking about various solutions .. But as you told it is really above my grasp. I was also thinking on your lines for some time now. We must create a safe and reliable environment..
