Consumer router remote fingerprinting

Just wondering if anybody knows whether or not there's already a body of work on this subject. Determining what router/wifi hotspot someone is using remotely using html/javascript tricks? Without access to a lot of the different hardware I can't really come up with a way to work on this. Any ideas?

you could maybe be able to use a variation of the css history hack to at least make estimates about what they are using, on two levels...

Also checking which IP it is on will also nail it down a little bit (though to a much lesser degree of course -- I know for example that a fritzbox is usually accessible under the fritz.box hostname)
