Do you guys know of any good explorer.exe replacements?
So far I've tried a few. LiteStep is a POS. Totally. Next to no documentation on the site, doesn't work with my media keys, etc.
Actually I stopped looking at shell replacements after Windows 95. I realized I was spending a lot of time getting it to look and act perfectly, and then my machine died. Not only that I couldn't replicate a lot of problems other people were having because I didn't have them. It became a nuisance so I finally stuck to using a generic out of the box install from that point forward (obviously with a few customizations to make it more secure). In the end I don't even have a background picture on most of my desktops. It's really the most blank install you've ever seen + all the security tools.
I tryed miniXP OS (125MB) once, actually cool. Tons of bad stuff stripped out: media player, explorer, those pesky games, blah w0rd, etc. It's somewhere as a .torrent
-still dont know how they managed to pull explorer of it, cause the win32 requires explorer-
Whenever I'm looking for something else to poke at I go here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?displaylang=en and find some new toy to download. Most of the time no one will have them, but sometimes they are super interesting.
