Nope, I know Vigna (even spoke to his PHD students once), but didn't hear about this. Kinda cool.

Guys - we need a kind of calendar for such events. Anyone interested in creating/using a public Google calendar for hacking events and related stuff?

I definitely am.

I read about it early this year, and was planning to try and enter, but then I forgot somewhere along the line.

[EDIT]: Though I'm not sure if a Google Calendar is the best way to go; The ones I've seen got clogged with weekly/monthly/whateverly meetings. In the worst case I'm sure google lets you export the events. Or at least I hope they do.

I'd say lets just try if it we can work with GCal - if not we can export all data and chose another tool.

I created a Google Account for slackers and set up a shared calendar: sla.ckers.org@googlemail.com

http://www.google.com/calendar/render?cid=sla.ckers.org%40googlemail.com

Please check if this works. Anyone who wants to be added to the contributors list just send me a mail or contact me otherwise (GMail account needed)

@rsnake and id: if you like to have the pwd of the gmail account for own usage and administration just contact me.

Greetings,
.mario

I'd actually much rather it not be on Google for several reasons. The most important of which is that I think there is a ton of functionality that would be missing for a group like this. It's something a friend of mine was supposed to be working on. I'll ping him and see if he still is (I don't want to go into all the details in case he still is - don't want to spill his beans for him). If not, we might consider making it a project on our side, because I agree, it's really annoying not to know when everything is happening.

Sure - but as soon as we have a final decision about the underlying software we can just export the ICS data from GCal - so i think it's no problem that the calendar is being charged already.

... which nicely leads me into the second reason. I never visit Google anymore. :)

A calendar would be great, excellent idea!
The UCSB iCTF was really fun and you learn a lot. The next CIPHER4 will probably hosted by University Aachen, Germany, again next summer (once a year). However there are usually only teams from educational facilities allowed to participate, otherwise building a SLACKERS team would be awesome !!
