CSS issue + various features
Posted by: WhiteAcid
Date: November 13, 2006 02:43PM

1. How about changing the colour of some of the pages like for instance the profile page?

2. What about a who's-online page?

3. What about being able to search for a members posts from their profile page?

I totally understand if you don't want to add those due to the effort required, but the first two at least are things that really have been bugging me.

Whats wrong with the color of the profile page? o.O it matches the rest of the site..

3) would be an fairly easy addition.. although i can't say i ever had the need to search among a specific person's posts

The profile page may be doable if RSnake wants to, but a who's online page is a no go until we have a faster box, I don't need any more DB calls thx!

Search on member is possible, but once again up to RS

A who's online page doesn't really fit the site anyways.

I just thought a who's online page could be nice so you know if you should look for a reply in the next 5 minutes or in the next 5 hours.

Maluc, don't you find text on the profile page too close to the white background?

I like the mugshot idea and have talked it over with RSnake in the past, I would also like to let people use avatars, but not until the server has been upgraded.

Really there are dozens of changes and upgrades we would like to make, but there are serious time constraints and hardware issues right now. Most should be solved in the coming weeks with a new server(s), and maybe a slow down in some other projects I have been putting time into. But keep the suggestions coming, some will be implemented some won't but it never hurts to ask!

whiteacid: ya, i guess my brightness on my monitor is not as high then.. as it's pretty easy on my eyes. well that's a 1minute CSS fix then ^^

in the meantime, you can add a one-line greasemonkey script to correct it

i'm personally not too fond of avatars (slows loading, spams requests, and makes the page less clean) .. so if that's added, a setting in the 'My Control Center' to disable them, would be nice

Updated the color on the profile page and made a quick link to see the posts that the person performed. I did decide to suppress the emails though. I don't know, maybe it's a privacy thing or maybe it's an anti-spam thing. Either way, I think as a bunch of security guys I figured you wouldn't mind much. :)

As for most of that other crap - avatars and seeing who's online blah blah... id's right, it's not actually that helpful to the subject matter and it's hell on the server. Maybe for a later date, but don't hold your breath.

Thanks for fixing the CSS, I was about the be a pain in the arse and say that you didn't change anything, then I just ctrl-F5ed and the change took effect.

Thanks for the updates :)

One minor thing though, now that you're changing the CSS files, why not change the colours of more similar colouring issues such as the post-snippets in this search results page

ya.. i agree that it's unnecessary to show the email addy, since people can just use PMs

and not to be a grammar nazi, since you said it right in this last post .. but surpressed-> suppressed (i had to check dictionary.com :x)
