Hi and, er, HELP!

Hi everyone. George here from the UK. Computer nut but still very basic knowledge.

Can you guys help me? When I click on the IE icon on the desktop it will not open the browser. Instead it just gives a short cut. More clicks, more short cuts. Firefox will not run either. All I can do is use a third party application to open the browser and even then, the connection is very unstable and the browser refuses to open a site within minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no knowledge of this stuff. I reckon you guys are experts. Please reply to my mail address at Thanks, in advance.
Happy New Year.

ps. Quick edit.
I have a new dell dimension 3100c running windows xp home edition.
Intel 4 processor.
512 ram

So it generates shortcuts?? think you clicked the wrong buttons in the wrong place somehow and made a cool shortcut virus. ^^ Go run some antispyware software, and try some dangerous tools like hijackthis look up a forum about that.

oh and i guess you want to remove your e-mail from your post.
