How does Google protect it's data centers?

Well, this might be a kinda strange question but while taking a shower a few minutes ago, I started wondering how Google protects it's data centers against physical attacks such as nukes, emps and so on.

Does anyone have information on this?

I remember the good old days when I could just send a couple ICMP UNREACHs to the EFNET uplink for all of Finland, and I could make that entire country disappear.. for at least a while.. now, I have to cut fiber to achieve the same effect? sheesh!

If anything you'd cost them a fortune if you continually cut up their fiber optic cables. I guess the only other option is to modify the transformer they use to power their equipment to output a higher voltage than required as it'll cause it to run at a higher rate before it simply explodes, and bursts into flames. I've actually seen this happen before on another costly commercial appliance, and it was totally badass.

If you can create a relatively high voltage accessory, and place it in close proximity to the cables in a parallel fashion the magnetic field may be great enough to cause a large amount of interference. This is generally the case with most electrical apparatus like standard 120 (110, or for Europeans 208/277) voltage and CAT5 low-voltage wiring. I've run CAT6 on several occasions, and I'm told it's uneffected by the standard voltages (atleast up to 277). Then again if you clipped the cables they may have to run completely new wire, which would be quite a large chunk of cash, because from what I've been told you cannot splice communication wire, and crimping RJ45 ends on it to try and fix it will cause interference.
